Valve’s portable PC platform Steam Deck has enjoyed another good year, with a new OLED model and cheaper entry point contributing to a steady increase in popularity.

Throughout the year, Valve has been letting players know which titles are most popular on Steam Deck each month, with some consistent titles cropping up over the year.

Now we’ve reached the end of 2023, Valve has collated the most-played titles on Steam Deck for 2023 and put them in three ranking categories.

In the Platinum rank for the most played titles of all, small-scale hits like Vampire Survivors and Dave the Diver made an impact alongside big hitters such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Grand Theft Auto 5. Half-Life also entered the Platinum club after Valve gave the 1998 classic a Steam Deck overhaul for its 25th anniversary.

The Gold tier contains the likes of Street Fighter 6, Stardew Valley, and Counter Strike 2, while the Silver tier features PlayStation titles God of War and The Last of Us Part 1 alongside the surprise multiplayer hit Lethal Company.

The list only includes games Valve has given verified or playable status to for Steam Deck, so there are certain omissions, but you can view all three complete tiers below.

While there were larger, more obvious horror games that grabbed the attention of gamers this year, the genre’s health is rudest in the smaller spaces.

Smaller-scale horror games are the building blocks for the genre’s future, and this year has given us such an interesting mixture of horror in all its shapes and sizes.

So here is my list of notable indie and small-scale horror games of 2023 for ComingSoon.

Killer Frequency (Team 17)

Killer Frequency takes the simulator approach to building a unique flavor of horror. You play a washed-up DJ in the 1980s, slumming it a small-time radio station, and you get the unbridled joy of working the night shift. That does allow you to actually take calls, swap records out, play with mixers, play ads and sound effects, and go for the high score in throwing balled-up pieces of paper into the waste paper bin across the studio.

But that alone wouldn’t be much of a horror. An almost mythical killer from the town’s past has seemingly emerged on this night,a nd only you can guide callers out of their personal sticky situations with the killer by finding the right materials around the station to keep them in the land of the living.

Killer Frequency takes place in real-time during these calls, and each caller could potentially die if you don’t help them in time or help them in the right way. It makes for a refreshing intensity and pressure, but also makes good use of your limited environment as a subtle puzzle box.

Stasis: Bone Totem (The Brotherhood)

This throwback to isometric point-and-click adventures was one I took a while to finally play, but its aquatic horror themes were a great hook once I got there.

Mac and Charlie, a husband and wife duo, who make their living scouring the ocean for salvage. But, when they stumble upon an abandoned oil rig in the Pacific Ocean, they uncover a horrific secret that Cayne Corporation will do anything to keep hidden.

Stasis: Bone Totem is an audiovisual feast. The grungey, dripping locations feel far more expansive than a screenshot might suggest. The unraveling of a great mystery under the ocean also manages to grow in its horrifying nature the deeper Mac and Charlie go.

Lethal Company (Zeekerss)

Chances are you’ve probably seen or heard about Lethal Company in recent weeks. Since its Early Access launch in October, this humble take on the co-op extraction shooter has provided players with all manner of wacky, hilarious, and frightening anecdotes.

You and your crewmates are sent to abandoned, industrialized moons to salvage goods for your company. While there, you need to amass enough goods to meet the required quota and thus be allowed back home.

Sounds easy enough until you realize just how many strange and sinister monsters like to hang out on these moons. Each has its own unique ruleset that, once learned, will make them easier to handle. But Lethal Company never makes it easy for you and your team.

Homebody (Game Grumps)

You might suspiciously eye a horror game from the people behind Dream Daddy and a comedic YouTube channel, but you really shouldn’t because Homebody is an intriguing time loop slasher game reminiscent of classic Clock Tower.

A young woman named Emily meets with her friends at a remote house to view a meteor shower and generally reconnect after various issues caused them to grow apart. But as night falls, a masked killer arrives and slays the group.

That is until Emily finds herself alive and back at the start of the evening. As time keeps looping and people keep dying, Emily, who is the only one who seems to be aware of the loop, must uncover the puzzling secrets of the house to break the loop and stop the killer.

Amanda the Adventurer (MANGLEDmaw Games)

One of the lovely things about itch.io, the site that gives indie game makers a space to publish their games, is that it allows for some fascinating short-form experiments that can potentially turn into fully-fledged experiences. Amanda the Adventurer is a great example of this.

Having inherited their Aunt Kate’s house, Riley Park starts exploring what the reclusive woman left behind. In the attic, Riley is surprised to find a stack of VHS tapes next to an old TV set. The tapes seem to be episodes of an early 2000’s era children’s cartoon they have never seen before. Intrigued, Riley pops the first tape into the VCR.

The television show that follows is crude and may well cause parents with a disdain for Cocomelon to shudder just looking at it, but that’s not where the horror lies. There’s something sinister about the show, and it could well have a connection to where Riley stands in the present day.

The Outlast Trials (RedBarrels)

I will make no secret of my distaste for RedBarrels’ Outlast and its sequel. But The Outlast Trials shows those games were mere stepping stones on the way to the developer’s true potential.

The Outlast Trials puts a multiplayer spin on things by making you a somewhat unwilling participant in a government brainwashing program that sees you complete various horrific tests. The only way to win is to survive the terrors you must endure and be broken enough to become a pliable husk of humanity. Cheerful stuff!

Even in Early Access, The Outlast Trials is one of the strongest horror multiplayer experiences around. The nervous intensity of survival in the trials is bad enough when you’re riding solo, but with others, the worst of humanity can be teased out and change your fate in mere seconds.

My Friendly Neighborhood (John & Evan Szymanski)

On the surface, My Friendly Neighborhood would appear to be another eye-rolling attempt at mascot horror in the wake of Five Nights at Freddy’s monumental success. Its offbeat spin of a Seasame Street style show gone wrong does little to dissuade the casual observer of that.

But the reality is that My Friendly Neighborhood is much more of a classic survival horror experience with a demented and inventive sense of humor in its characters, environments, and most of all, in its weaponry. The surprise is that it’s actually a refreshing take on both survival horror and mascot horrror.

The Szymanski’s take the ball of Saturday morning kids show gone rogue and run with it to the point it distorts the reality the game exists in. From those bonkers weapons to world design that amplifies the vibrant and unusual nature of the game’s story.

El Paso, Elsewhere (Strange Scaffold)

The premise of El Paso, Elsewhere feels so typically early 2000s PC gaming that I can almost feel the sting of my eyes from another unadvisable all-nighter on Quake 3.

It’s not like Quake though; it’s instead like a more cosmic and supernatural take on Remedy’s Max Payne with a hardboiled detective slaying werewolves in slow-mo within the confines of a reality-shifting motel.

But it’s what El Paso, Elsewhere does with that setup that makes it so special. It’s inventive, odd, and, as advertised, full of more slow-motion dives than you would think it is humanly possible to fit into a single video game.

Varney Lake (LCB Game Studio)

Last year, I fell in love with LCB Game Studio’s homage to pulp novels and 80s text adventures Mothmen 1966. Its simplified, yet striking color palette, intriguing spin on B-movie sci-fi horror, and general presentation made it a surprise hit for me.

Varney Lake arguably improves on that experience in every way. A tale of innocence lost as three kids enjoying their Summer in 1950s America encounter a vampire that will change their lives forever.

The story has an air of Stephen King to it, especially with the back and forth between the kids’ fateful Summer and the aftermath in their adult lives. It definitely retains the pulp feel of its predecessor, but there’s a bit more of a tragic human connection to Varney Lake that makes it stick in the brain.

Dredge (Black Salt Games)

The term Lovecraftian gets thrown around a lot for a certain kind of horror game, but very few actually translate the feeling of Lovecraft‘s work and instead simply copy the notes. Dredge is one of those that captures the unsettling dread and feeling of cosmic insignificance. And it’s basically just an open-world fishing sim.

In Dredge, you become the local fisherman for an archipelago with a mysterious past. Sketchy locals, hushed warnings about the dangers of the sea at night, and you pulling up your line and exclaiming ”what in the hell is that thing?” are signs all is not right with this place.

The better you get at Dredge, the more disturbing and horror-led it becomes. The price of increased freedom on the waves is coming face to face with the terrors of the deep. Effective horror is offset by the sometimes tranquil scouring of the ocean on your dinky trawler.

Incident at Grove Lake (ToothandClaw)

Itch.io is home to many fantastic short horror experiences. And when I say short, I mean somewhere between tea and lunch break short. Dan McGrath’s Incident at Grove Lake clocks in at about 25 minutes and manages to show off the style and atmosphere that another recent, and certainly more hyped, alien abduction game (Greyhill Incident) failed to conjure up once.

Part found footage, part PSX-style first-person adventure, Incident at Grove Lake taps into the 90s alien paranoia of Fire in the Sky and The X-Files by giving us various perspectives of the titular incident from past and present, and then layers on a dressing of reality with the use of real public radio shows concerning alien conspiracy.

That last part helps create a strong ending to the game, with the frenzied chattering of a caller convinced the government is out to get them echoes what we’ve seen in chilling fashion.

Slay the Princess (Black Tabby Games)

You’re on a path in the woods, and at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess. You’re here to slay her. If you don’t, it will be the end of the world.

She will do everything in her power to stop you. She’ll charm, and she’ll lie, and she’ll promise you the world, and if you let her, she’ll kill you a dozen times over. You can’t let that happen. Don’t forget, the fate of the world rests on your shoulders.

That’s the hook for Slay the Princess. It’s a game that teases and tricks the player and draws you into a hand-drawn world of cosmic horrors. To say more would tarnish the experience.

The voice actor for Kratos in the modern era of games, Christopher Judge, says that he won’t ever voice a younger version of the character for any God of War game.

During a recent live stream event with YouTuber AbdBay and Streamily, Judge spoke about his preparation for the character. Judge said that he’s always tried to make the character of Kratos his own, and that he never watched any scenes from past games. He did this out of respect for Terrence C. Carson, the original voice actor of Kratos.

Judge didn’t look into any old God of War games in order to make the character his own

“I never watched any of the scenes from the earlier (God of War games) because [Terrence C. Carson]’s so great, and I thought it would be a disservice to try to voice match him or anything, nor did they ask for it,” Judge said. “From the very beginning, it was about making it my own.”

Judge went on to say that, recently, he was offered a role that would have seen him portray a younger Kratos, but that he turned it down immediately.

“They wanted me to somewhat match the voice of that character, and I said, ‘Absolutely not,’” said Judge. “I love this dude. That would be such a slight. We are not celebrated for what we, as individuals, bring to stuff. That’s across the board, no matter what you do. I just think it’s inherently wrong to try to commandeer something else that someone has already established.”

It’s unclear exactly what role Judge is talking about, but many fans believe it to be the recently released God of War Ragnarok DLC, Valhalla, which ends with Kratos coming face-to-face with an illusion of a younger version of himself.

A new report suggests that planned Grand Theft Auto V story DLC was scrapped due to internal rifts at Rockstar Games, as well as the sudden emergence and rise in popularity of GTA Online.

A new YouTube video from Mors Mutual Insurance (a reference to the insurance company that appears throughout the Grand Theft Auto series) details some of the information that was leaked as part of a hack on Rockstar Games.

While it was known for years that GTA 5 did have story DLC planned that was ultimately scrapped, the report suggests that creative differences, as well as the success of GTA Online, played a large role.

The video notes that disagreements between Rockstar founders the Houser brothers and Leslie Benzies, the former president of Rockstar North and a producer on Grand Theft Auto V, eroded any chance of story DLC. Emails leaked by hackers indicate that the Houser brothers were interested in releasing more single-player projects and content, while Benzies was pushing for more live service and online projects.

The disagreement became so severe that Benzies eventually took a hiatus from Rockstar before leaving his role and suing Take-Two (a settlement was reached out of court before things went any further).

Following the split, Rockstar began development on Red Dead Redemption 2 while still supporting GTA Online in the process. As a result, however, single-player projects like Bully 2, a new Midnight Club, and story-related DLC for GTA 5 were never pursued.

MystiveDev, the creators of the indie horror gem Mirror Forge, recently released the latest trailer for its upcoming bodycam horror game Chasmal Fear.

The brief trailer showcases plenty of aquatic horror nastiness viewed through the disconcerting lens of a bodycam.

Chasmal Fear is a cooperative experience developed in Unreal Engine 5. It’s a first-person tactical shooter survival horror game that puts players in a mysteriously empty sci-fi underwater facility where something has gone terribly wrong. Ammo is scarce. The odds are stacked against you. Choose wisely between fighting or sneaking past the monstrosities which once killed might mutate into something even worse.

Unlock hidden areas and solve puzzles to uncover the truth of what happened in this top-secret facility. Every decision will impact your gameplay experience, some swarming relentless monsters against you while others offering the chance to employ stealth and cunning to survive.

Bandai Namco has released a series of developer diary videos for its upcoming Sand Land video game adaptation. In them, the developers preview a handful of aspects of the game, including vehicles, combat, and the dungeon system.

The first video showcases dives into how combat and vehicle play work in Sand Land. In the game, Beelzebub — the main character — will be able to string together combos of attacks, and use heavy and special attacks as well.

A skill tree in the game will allow for different attacks to be learned, which will work differently depending on the enemy you’re fighting.

When it comes to large enemies or other tanks, Beelzebub will have to take to a vehicle to fight. According to Bandai Namco, there are a handful of vehicles to check out, including tanks, motorcycles, and even Jump-Bots, robots made specifically for reaching high places.

The second video talks more about dungeons and subquests found in Sand Land. In the game, exploration is encouraged, with Bandai Namco noting that various places can be visited, including village ruins, military bases, and dungeon ruins, the latter of which are divided into small, medium, and large dungeons. Some of these can contain multiple levels as well.

Finally, the third video in the series is all about base building. Base camp in Sand Land will serve as a central hub for players to progress through stories, complete subquests, and build out a town for people to come and live.

Players will be able to develop the base by completing subquests, allowing for more people to come and live, which in itself will add to the things you can do in Sand Land.

What is Sand Land about?

“In the far future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the supply of water is controlled by the greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the king of the demons for help…and got the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. Together the unlikely trio sets off across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest foe of all… the King’s army itself! It’s travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball Z!” the official synopsis from Viz Media states.

Sand Land is a shonen manga series created by Akira Toriyama. Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump serialized the manga from May 22, 2000, to August 28, 2000. There are 14 chapters, available in one volume. It was released on November 2, 2000, in Japan. Meanwhile, Viz Media handled the North American and English release of the series. They released the English volume on December 24, 2003.

Bandai Namco has released a new image for its upcoming fighting game Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, which teases the inclusion of an iconic Dragon Ball Z villain.

The new image shows off Majin Buu in the game, stretching out a long piece of pink goo to perform his Potbelly Attack, which sees him pull a piece of himself off of his stomach and use it as a weapon, either to shoot energy out or use it to grab opponents in a vice grip. Nothing else about the character has been revealed as of now, but just the inclusion of the character is sure to get fans excited about the fighting game.

What do we know about Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero?

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero was originally announced earlier this month at The Game Awards 2023. The game will take place in the fan-favorite Budokai Tenkaichi fighting game series and feature a large roster of playable characters from throughout the Dragon Ball universe.

No release date for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero was given, though the trailer ends by saying that fans can now add it to their wishlist.

“Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero takes the legendary gameplay of the Budokai Tenkaichi series and raises it to whole new levels,” reads the game’s description. “Learn and master an incredible roster of playable characters, each with signature abilities, transformations, and techniques. Take the fight to arenas that crumble and react to your power as the battle rages on.”

Insomniac Games has released a statement about the cyberattack that took place earlier this week and ended up leaking sensitive details and the personal information of several employees.

On its official Twitter account, the studio posted an image containing a lengthy statement about the attack and the effects its had. Insomniac notes that the hack took an “emotional toll” on the developers and has been “extremely distressing,” but that like the titular character of Marvel’s Wolverine, the studio is “resilient” and will keep developing the title as planned.

“Thank you for the outpouring of compassion and unwavering support. It’s deeply appreciated,” the release reads. “We’re both saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotional toll it’s taken on our dev team. We have focused inwardly for the last several days to support each other.

“We are aware that the stolen data includes personal information belonging to our employees, former employees, and independent contractors. It also includes early development details about Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5. We continue working quickly to determine what data was impacted. This experience has been extremely distressing for us.

“We want everyone to enjoy the games we develop as intended and as our players deserve. However, like Logan … Insomniac is resilient. Marvel’s Wolverine continues as planned. The game is in early production and will no doubt greatly evolve throughout development, as do all our plans. While we appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm, we will share official information about Marvel’s Wolverine when the time is right. On behalf of everyone at Insomniac, thank you for your ongoing support during this challenging time.”

When did the Insomniac ransom hack take place?

Last week, Insomniac Games was hit by a “Rhysida” ransomware attack. The hacker group apparently gave the studio seven days to respond while ransoming the date obtained from the hack for just over $2 million. Insomniac and Sony didn’t respond, and earlier this week on December 19, the data was released by the hacker group.

In addition to various internal details involving future games and expansions for game’s like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the personal details of current employees, former employees, and contractors was leaked, prompting widespread outrage online.

Several upcoming film projects are being lined up for video game adaptations by the Sino-American fund Stars-Hana.

Cthulhu Called For Another Game Adaptation

The fund is comprised of three companies (Stars Collective, Hana Investment and Starlight Media) and have revealed first details of the slate, which includes ambitions to create video games based on Stars Collective film IP in conjunction with Tencent and Tencent-owned DreamSky Technology, plus HYJZ and Forevernine.

The names on board include movies produced by horror giants Sam Raimi and James Wan. You can see the complete list of known projects below.

Graewolv’s upcoming occult-infused tactical shooter Veil is to receive a live-action movie adaptation.

Veil Unveiled

The film adaptation will be created in partnership with the Malmö-based production company Studios Extraordinaires, spearheaded by André Hedetoft and Andreas Troedsson.

Studio Extraordinaires recently announced it was adapting another video game with the sci-fi horror Fort Solis.

Veil is a new IP from Graewolv; a dark, stylish, and deadly world, filled with action-horror adventures, based around occult societies in the city of Velumgrad. Faustian bargains are being struck between demonic creatures from a parallel world and ambitious humans seeking godlike powers. As The Veil grows in their city, these anti-heroes find themselves trapped between their ambition, their demonic patrons, and the growing animosity among Velumgrad’s factions.

Steam users who opt-in to Client Betas can now hide their games from people on their friends list. The new update also includes adding new features to the Steam Shopping Cart. This includes private shopping, inline gifting, and cart sharing between devices.

Steam users can set individual games to private

Previously, Steam Client users could only set privacy status for their entire account. According to Steam’s announcement, Beta users can now mark individual games as Private. Private games will not appear anywhere that other Steam users can see it. This lets players hide their ownership, playtime, and activity, even from people on their friends list.

“This additional control allows you to keep most of your Steam Library visible to your friends,” says Steam, “so they can see what you are playing and join in, yet also keep a few of those games just to yourself.

Users can set a game to Private in their shopping cart or from their game library. They can also do so whether signed in through the Steam Client or over a web browser.

While privacy is a big part of this Client beta, it also introduces new options for buying and sharing games on Steam. Users who add an item to their shopping cart can see it when signed in on any device. The beta only works on the Client, though Steam will likely add browser support to the full update.

Finally, Inline Gifting lets users buy games for multiple friends and themselves in a single purchase. Previously, and currently, for non-beta users, users had to make a separate purchase for each person on their gift list.

Again, users must opt-in to Steam Client betas to use these features. To do so, users must go to Steam Settings > Interface and then select “Steam Beta Update” from the drop-down menu under “Client Beta Participation.”

The South Park: Snow Day! release date has been revealed through a new trailer uploaded the official South Park YouTube channel.

South Park: Snow Day! will be released on Tuesday, March 26 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game‘s Collector’s Edition was also revealed, which will cost $219.99 and will contain the game, a Grand Wizard Cartman snow globe, a Grand Wizard Cartman talking toilet paper holder, a Grand Wizard Cartman knit beanie, six Tarot cards, and the game’s soundtrack.

Steam’s 2023 Winter Sale went live today, December 21. Running until 1:00 PM Eastern/10:00 AM Pacific on January 4, the Steam sale offers deals on a wide range of PC games. This includes up to 95% off on some titles.

Steam offers big deals on many games

While it would be impractical to list every game on sale, there are definitely a few standouts. 90% off or more deals include Warhammer 40,000: Gladius, Battlefield 1, Civilization 6, Need For Speed: Heat, Star Wars: Squadrons, and Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission. Fans can also save big on other games in those franchises. Other franchise deals include Tom Clancy, Halo, EA Sports, Doom, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty, Total War, and more.

The Steam Winter Sale is also a good choice for PC gamers who want to try out some of the Game Awards winners. Game of the Year winner Baldur’s Gate 3 is 10% off, while Best Ongoing Game Cyberpunk 2077 is 50% off. Its Phantom Liberty DLC is also 15% off. Meanwhile, Sea of Stars, which won Best Independent Game, is 20% off.

Starfield didn’t win anything at the 2023 Game Awards, but Steam users who still want to check it out can save 20%. Lies of P is also 20% off, as is Sons of the Forest and indie hit Dave the Diver. Destiny 2: Lightfall and Rainbow 6 Siege are 60% off, while Red Dead Redemption II is 65% off.

The year is coming to a close and Microsoft may have one more surprise up its sleeve as it seems that Grand Theft Auto V may leave Xbox Game Pass soon. Some players have received notifications that the game will be one of three due to leave the service on December 31, but only two of those have been confirmed by Microsoft.

GTA 5 could leave Xbox Game Pass after just 6 months

Some players have received a notification today via the Xbox Game Pass app that was titled “Leaving Game Pass (31/12)” and urged players to “Play before it’s gone: Grand Theft Auto V. Or, save up to 20% and buy it to keep the fun going.” It’s worth mentioning that while some players on Reddit have received the notification, we have not. As such, it’s only a possibility that the game could be leaving on Dec. 31 as the notifications could have been sent out to a few players in error.

Grand Theft Auto V has been in Xbox Game Pass since its surprise addition on July 5. While six months may seem like a short time, the game has been on Game Pass twice previously in 2020 and 2021. On both of those occasions, players got three months to play the game before it disappeared from the service, making this stint the longest for which the game has ever been available. Fellow Rockstar game Red Dead Redemption 2 was only on Game Pass for three months too.

Most games join Xbox Game Pass for 12 months, although there are lengthier exceptions to that rule. The two games that are confirmed to be leaving Xbox Game Pass on December 31 are Monster Train and Naraka: Bladepoint. The former has been in the service for three years, while the latter is being removed after 18 months.

Microsoft announced that Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is finally stepping down, effective December 29. He is not the only high-profile departure, though Microsoft intends to leave most of the company’s management in place.  

Activision Blizzard executives will answer to Xbox’s Matt Booty

As The Verge reported, Phil Spencer announced the leadership changes in an internal memo. Rather than appointing a new CEO, the conglomerate is incorporating upper management into Microsoft’s corporate hierarchy. Activision Blizzard Vice Chairman Thomas Tippl, Activision Publishing President Rob Kostich, Blizzard Entertainment President Mike Ybarra, and King President Tjodolf Sommestad will report to Matt Booty, Microsoft President of Game Content and Studios.

Microsoft appointed Booty in October to oversee Bethesda Softworks and the ZeniMax Media studios. These include Bethesda Game Studio, Arkane Studios, id Software, MachineGames, ZeniMax Online Studios, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Studio. While Jamie Leder retained his position as CEO of ZeniMax, Microsoft appointed Booty to prevent a repeat of Redfall’s disastrous launch. This latest management shakeup puts him in charge of all Xbox, ZeniMax, and Activision Blizzard Studios.

Other Activision Blizzard executives will retain their positions but now answer to different Microsoft departments. However, Kotick isn’t the only high-profile departure. Blizzard and King Vice Chairman Humam Sakhnini is also leaving at the end of December. Meanwhile, Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Communications Officer Lulu Meservey is leaving at the end of January.

In addition to the changes at Activision Blizzard, Matt Booty also announced Jill Braff as Head of the ZeniMax/Bethesda studios. She will oversee the development side, with Todd Howard, Product Development VP Todd Vaughn, Matt Firor, Paul Jensen, and Heather Cooper reporting to her. Additionally, ZeniMax’s QA and Release Management heads now answer to Vaughn.

Rocksteady Studios has released another Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video as part of its “Insider” series, with this one delving into the game‘s support squad.

This latest video shows off the support characters that will help the Suicide Squad take on the Justice League in the upcoming video game. Some familiar faces are shown, including Penguin and a new version of Poison Ivy. The DC characters Hack and Toyman also appear, with each helping the team upgrade certain gear and equipment.

Rocksteady Studios has commented on the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League leaks that recently made their way online.

In a tweet from the game development studio, Rocksteady acknowledged the leaked story details, audio clips, and screenshots that have appeared online. In the release, the studio notes its disappointment at the leaks then urges players to try to avoid spoilers themselves and to not spoil the game for others.

“We’re looking forward to players experiencing the story we’ve crafted in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League once the game launches in the new year. We hope everyone can play the game and feel each moment of the narrative for themselves.

“It is very disappointing to see details being shared ahead of the game’s release, so we can only urge you to try to avoid spoilers where you can. And please try not to impact the enjoyment of other players by posting spoilers. We look forward to seeing you all in Metropolis on 02-02-24.”

Game director and Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke confirmed that the studio isn’t interested in bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to Game Pass. While the hit RPG launched on Xbox Series X/S last week, it won’t come to Microsoft’s subscription service any time soon.

Larian decided against Game Pass from the beginning

IGN recently interviewed Vincke about the making of Larian Studio’s award-winning Baldur’s Gate 3. When the question of Game Pass came up, he made it clear that the studio isn’t interested.

“Oh, we always said from the get-go, it wasn’t going to be on Game Pass,” said Vincke, “it’s not going to be on Game Pass.”

“We made a big game,” he went on to say about Baldur’s Gate 3, “so I think there’s a fair price to be paid for that, and I think that that is okay. We don’t charge you any micro-transactions on top of it, so you get what you pay for. Upfront, it’s a big meaty game. So, I think that should be able to exist as it is. This is what allows us to continue making other games.”

The question of whether to put games on Game Pass is an issue that other developers have struggled with. Small studios and independent developers have a lot to gain from partnering with Microsoft in this way. However, larger publishers have complained about the lost value.

In Larian’s case, Baldur’s Gate 3 is more than successful enough to stand on its own two feet. That, combined with the studio’s pay-once approach to selling its game, makes it unsurprising Vincke isn’t interested in Game Pass.
