On January 4, viewers can start streaming the Netflix originals Boy Swallows Universe and The Brothers Sun. Boy Swallows Universe is a limited series that tells a coming-of-age story revolving around Eli Bell, a working-class youth who enters the Underworld of Brisbane to save his mother from danger. The series is created by John Collee, who previously worked on projects such as Happy Feet and Hotel Mumbai, and stars Travis Fimmel, Simon Baker, Phoebe Tonkin, Bryan Brown, Anthony LaPaglia, Sophie Wilde, and Deborah Mailman.

The Brothers Sun is an action comedy created by Brad Falchuck (Glee, American Horror Story) and Byron Wu. The series follows average Californian Bruce Wu whose life turns upside down when his older brother Charles visits Los Angeles. Bruce then ends up on a rather dark odyssey where he learns that his family was once a notorious crime family based in Taipei.

HBO Max‘s new TV and movie releases for January 1-7 2024 include the Robocop trilogy and 2014 remake, The Breakfast Club, and Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy.

Starting on January 1, New Year’s Day, viewers can stream the Robocop trilogy starring Peter Weller as the eponymous character, a cyborg who was previously a human cop named Alex Murphy, up until his murder at the hands of various criminals. Starting on December 25, viewers can stream the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy, the tenth Star Trek series. The story revolves around a group of young aliens in the 24th century who find the abandoned starship Protostar and take control of it.
