The legendary comedy force John Candy has collaborated with filmmaker John Hughes on memorable projects like Planes, Trains, & Automobiles, The Great Outdoors, and Uncle Buck. However, his small involvement in the Hughes-produced classic Home Alone reportedly didn’t make him happy due to his small pay.

John Candy’s role in Home Alone may have been small, but it was very important for the movie. He played “Polka King of the Midwest” Gus Polinski who offered to give Kate McCallister a ride to Chicago back to her son. Candy brought charm, humor, and personality into the heroic role that truly helped make it a John Hughes classic. Shockingly enough, though, Business Insider reported that Netflix’s show The Movies That Made Us revealed the former SNL alum only made $414 from the holiday comedy.

Considering Home Alone made more than $476 million at the box office, its director Chris Columbus claimed that John Candy wasn’t happy about the small pay he got.

“There was certainly a little resentment on John’s part,” said the American filmmaker. “It was a deal between him and John Hughes at the time. I never met John Candy before he came on the movie. I don’t know if John ever got any kind of compensation from Fox.”

The small sum was due to John Candy being in the movie as a favor to his pal John Hughes. Columbus continued to say the Canadian actor was still bitter about the Home Alone pay even as the two worked together in Only the Lonely a year later.

“There were a couple times on set when he would make a cutting remark about Fox and what he was paid.”

What’s Something Special John Candy Brought to Home Alone?

According to news.com.au, The Breakfast Club director was very protective of his script. So, only he would let his good friend and collaborator have the liberty to improvise his lines.

“None of that stuff was in the script,” said Columbus to Business Insider. “The funeral-parlor story, that was all improvised at 4:30 in the morning. We could barely keep a straight face on set just listening to John.”

He improvised even the parts when he talked about his polka band and the hits they made! I give Catherine O’Hara a lot of credit for keeping a straight face the whole time. John Candy died a few years later at 43, but he made his role of Gus Polinski incredibly iconic. It proves a small part can make a big difference to audiences.

Jonathan Bennett, who played Cady’s love interest Aaron Samuels, was also not present in the commercials either. As we’re itching to find out what his character’s been up to, the Hallmark movie star dishes on his own theories.

Aaron Samuels was a senior at North Shore High who was the eye candy of new student Cady Heron and the former flame of Queen Bee Regina George. In an interview with E! News, Jonathan Bennett answers the question of where he sees his Mean Girls character now.

“He’s definitely a math teacher somewhere,” Bennett said jokingly. “And he’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize because he figured out a math formula to make fetch happen.”

Many fans also wondered if the character would be married to Cady. The Cheaper By the Dozen 2 actor shares his view.

“High school love–you can’t beat it,” said the 42-year-old actor. “I don’t know if they would still be together because I don’t know that many people that are still married who dated in high school. It’s like your first love, not your final love.”

While talking to People, Jonathan Bennett shared what he hopes the 25-year-old will bring to the iconic role.

“I think the new musical movie is gonna be fantastic, and I hope that the new Aaron makes the character his own because it’s his time to interpret the character.”

While the musical remake will keep the personalities of Mean Girls’ memorable characters, watching the trailer reveals that these teens will differ from the ones we grew up with. The new movie clearly involves social media and I’m certain the help of songs will help in further developing supporting characters. But, I just hope they also make the new Aaron Samuels’ hair look sexy pushed back too.

Think back to the Christmas classic Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. If the Plaza Hotel bellhop in the movie looks familiar to you, that’s because it’s Deuce Bigalow’s Rob Schneider. Looking back 31 years from now, the SNL alum believes the holiday flick is “superior” to the original.

This month, fans already had a debate about Home Alone 3 and whether or not it was a good movie. Now another topic of discussion regarding the Home Alone franchise is whether Home Alone 2 is better than the first. Rob Schneider, who played Cedric the Bellman, was more than happy to share with Fox News Saturday Night why he believed the second movie trumps the first. Here was his reasoning:

“Home Alone 1 is just a family who just doesn’t know how to take care of their children. But Home Alone 2 is actually a movie that’s about a child’s ingenuity… and also a family that doesn’t know how to keep … an eye on their children.”

Rob Schneider also couldn’t help but notice how much hair his 20-something-year-old self had! So, what both films have in common is the McCallisters fail to look after young Kevin. In fact, you can argue that Home Alone 2 is basically a rehash of its predecessor. Kevin gets left behind and has to fend off two crooks. The biggest difference is that 10-year-old Kevin is alone in New York City — one of the world’s biggest metropolises. Audiences got to follow him on tourist attractions and see him come up with ingenious ways to thwart two crooks. With everything taken up a notch, Schneider’s reasoning makes sense.

What was Rob Schneider’s Time Like in Home Alone 2?

Before his breakout role in Home Alone 2, Rob Schneider’s star power revolved around Saturday Night Live in seasons 16-17. While speaking to AOL Entertainment, The 50 First Dates actor recalled the day he found out he got the job.

“I just remember thinking, if I’m standing next to Macaulay Culkin in a movie, people are going to see this. When I went to that first meeting, I didn’t know they were giving me the job,” said Schneider. “I was just starting in show business. At that point every time I had a meeting, I never got the job. I was still being used to being famous because of Saturday Night Live. I remember being in that meeting and I thought I was just auditioning, but they gave me the job right there.”

As Rob Schneider was an up-and-coming actor, he got to work with some prominent people for one of his first big-screen gigs. He remembered working with Tim Curry, who played the Plaza Hotel’s concierge, and his ability to nail every acting choice he made. Schneider also can’t forget about Donald Trump, who had a cameo role and owned the Plaza Hotel at the time, letting the cast “take over” his hotel and being nice to everyone.

Another big-name actor at the time Rob Schneider had a blast with was the film’s star, Macaulay Culkin. He reflected the two had an incredibly funny moment joking around in a trailer outside of the Plaza.

“‘What are the colors of the American flag?’ He says, ‘Red, white and blue.’ And I say, ‘I told you I could make you say the world ‘blue.’ And he says, ‘You said ‘green!’ And I went, ‘Got you!'”

With so many memorable moments, it’s no wonder Rob Schneider favors the Chris Columbus sequel.

It may have been distressing news to Avatar fans to find out the franchise’s next three movies have been delayed. On the bright side, Avatar 3 will be ready for its 2025 release date. Not to mention, production has completed segments of the fourth film. So, why get the ball rolling on a fourth film when we have yet to see a third? According to James Cameron, Avatar 4 will feature a time jump.

Avatar: The Way of Water featured a lot of youngsters as part of the Na’vi and the human world. Jake and Neytiri have two sons, a daughter, and an adopted daughter born from Grace’s avatar. There’s also Spider, a human child frequently hanging out with the Sully family. According to Variety, James Cameron confirmed a time jump in Avatar 4, leading to the crew shooting scenes simultaneously with the second movie.

“We did the [motion capture] capture on three and the live-action photography on three as an intermingled production with [‘Avatar: The Way of Water’], and we even did part of movie four because our young characters are all going to have a big time jump in movie four,” Cameron explained.

Apparently, audiences will go six years into the future when the children are adults. This was all the more reason that schedule-wise, shots of the young actors needed to be prioritized while they were still kids.

“We see them and then we go away for six years and we come back,” revealed Cameron. “And so the part where we come back is the part we haven’t shot yet. So we’ll start on that after three is released.”

What Can We Expect From Avatar 3?

James Cameron said that when it came to work for Avatar 2, the pandemic made the post-production process frustrating. However, he’s confident Avatar 3 will be a real doozy.

“Three is actually much more straightforward than two,” said Cameron. “Two, we got hit with the pandemic in the middle of it and we were interrupted, and then we had to reboot and reboot the production and all that sort of thing. And it was a scramble to get it done.”

Other than filming completed for the third Avatar film, that’s all we know about the upcoming movie so far. When franchise producer Jon Landau spoke to Empire magazine, he teased a more antagonistic Na’vi clan. Otherwise known as the Ash People, they are described as an “aggressive, volcanic race.” Landau described the purpose of the new Na’vi characters as a way to show the citizens of Pandora can have good and bad in their clan just like humans do.

The Abyss director continued to say what he’s most thrilled for audiences to see is “great character depth.” As we journey with the Sully clan and get to know new characters, we will see character transitions play out within the next three movies.

Get ready for Avatar 3 coming to theaters on December 19th, 2025, Avatar 4 on December 21st, 2029, and Avatar 5 on December 19th, 2031.

The new rom-com Anyone But You stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell as fake lovers and looks steamy and hilarious. But, times on set weren’t always sweet. A real spider actually bit the 26-year-old actress on the set of the upcoming movie.

Ironically, Sydney Sweeney, who will be playing Spider-Woman in Madame Web, had a nasty interaction with a real-life spider. In the trailer for Anyone But You, there’s a scene when Bea pulls a large spider out of Ben’s pants and throws it to the ground. This hilariously leads him to remove more clothing to eliminate other spiders. Sydney Sweeney spoke on Live with Kelly and Mark that the same huntsman’s spider actually bit her.

“While we were filming that scene, it bit me. It hurt so bad, I had horrible, horrible marks on my hand,” Sweeney recalled via People. “I had to take meds and everything. Because anything can kill you in Australia.”

The White Lotus star was incredibly lucky she was okay after that. While on the Today show on Monday, Sweeney and Powell shared that the actress’s terrified reaction went unnoticed on set. That is except by the film’s male lead.

“Glen was the only one who finally caught on — they thought I was acting, but it actually bit me,” said Sweeney. “There’s a different tone to her voice when somebody is actually being bit by a spider. We just thought it was really dramatic improv,” Powell explained.

Through the extensive time that Sweeney and Powell spent on set together, they can clearly distinguish between acting and reality.

Did Sydney Sweeney Experience Any Other Dangers While on Set?

Not only were spiders a threat to the two leads filming Anyone But You, but so were sharks. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, Will Gluck revealed Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell had to float on a buoy in the middle of Sydney Harbor. Here was the problem- this was a shark’s hangout place.

“Initially they wouldn’t give us permission because it’s a huge shark area and people get hurt by sharks all the time there,” said Gluck. “It was a little bit scary and strange at 3 in the morning with our actors swimming into a shark tank, knowing that they’re at a place where sharks like to hang out.”

In order to protect the actors and stunt doubles, they had to do these scenes in a shark tank surrounded by floating buoys in a cage. There were also shark consultants on set to advise on the best practices. A big lesson everyone learned was that the more activity, the more attention would draw sharks. This meant the longer they were shooting in the water, the bigger the risk.

Thankfully, no one was harmed in the making of this movie…by the sharks anyway.

Emily Blunt starred in the epic biopic Oppenheimer playing the part of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s wife. However, she played another role in July 21’s double-feature event as The Quiet Place actress remembers sneaking into a screening of the high-grossing Christopher Nolan film with her husband John Krasinski.

When Oppenheimer first premiered in London in July, the timing couldn’t be more terrible for the film’s cast and crew. It was the beginning of the SAG-AFTRA Strike, and the entire cast had to leave the red carpet. Emily Blunt may have missed her chance to see Oppenheimer with a large audience, but she saw the movie with someone better. According to Variety, the British actress sneaked into a screening with her husband, John Krasinski, so that they could see a screening of the critically acclaimed film in Nyack, New York.

“We sneaked into an IMAX in a shopping mall during a 4 p.m. screening on a weekday,” said Blunt in an episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast. “The audience was dressed like him [Oppenheimer]. It was surreal. I immediately called Emma, Chris, and Cillian about it. You’d expect this in the heart of New York City, but witnessing kids dressed as characters from the film was incredible.”

It’s unbelievable what a cultural phenomenon Barbenheimer turned into. Whether you were watching Barbie or Oppenheimer (or both, for that matter), audiences went all out. Retail sites like Etsy and Redbubble made hundreds of Barbenheimer t-shirts. Theater chains like AMC broke records with their double-feature ticket sales. Not to mention, some independent theaters had movie-themed menus and costume parties centered around the two movies.

For all we know, maybe a fan encounter can happen in the near future. Emily Blunt will be co-starring with Gosling in The Fall Guy. Engaged celebrity couple Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are quite the dynamic duo. While their scrapped project The Island is attempting to recover due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, they also have another project up their sleeves. Phoenix and Mara will make a deal with you- if you watch the environmental documentary The Smell of Money, they’ll reimburse you for the rental fee.

Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are noted environmental and animal rights activists. Naturally, they’ll want to do everything in their power to promote Shawn Bannon’s hog farming documentary The Smell of Money. If you need more motivation to watch the newly released documentary, the Her couple has found a generous way. IndieWire says Phoenix and Mara will reimburse the first 500 rental pre-orders on iTunes and Google Play before its December 12th release. To qualify, you need to be an American and have a Venmo account.

Other than personally covering movie rental fees, Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara will also host a Los Angeles screening of The Smell of Money. They released in a joint statement what they hope audiences will get out of it.

“We hope once audiences watch this film they are as moved by its important message as we are,” said the Mary Magdalene couple. “Movies like The Smell of Money live or die by word of mouth, and we would like to lend our voices and support to help raise awareness. Please share this film with your family, friends, everyone!”

What is the Environmental Documentary About That Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara Are Promoting?

The Smell of Money focuses on a major pig factory in eastern North Carolina called Smithfield Foods. That is to say, they produce a giant portion of the world’s bacon and barbecue. However, this documentary raises awareness of the pig waste and brutal housing conditions of the hogs. Consequently, this leads to air, water, and soil pollution, which is dangerous for wildlife and humans.

The environmental documentary, screened for over a year, will hold additional screenings at film festivals and educational venues. Shawn Bannon, who worked with Rooney Mara in A Ghost Story, felt rentals were an effective strategy for raising awareness. However, it’s been a challenging task, considering his new documentary costs $14.99 to rent.

“Renting a movie costs a lot of money,” said Bannon. “Here’s easy access where anybody can watch this movie right away, which is really, really cool. We’re just over the moon about it. It’s very cool of them to do.”

After the McCallisters found Kevin again in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, a third installment was released five years later. However, there was no Macaulay Culkin or even the McCallister family in general. Instead, a new character, eight-year-old Alex, was the boy to defend his home from criminals. It’s been 26 years since Home Alone 3 came out, and audiences are still arguing about it.

Originally, Home Alone 3 would’ve had Macaulay Culkin reprise his role as a teenage Kevin. But in 1994, the former child star took a break from acting. This resulted in a new plot involving a boy with chicken pox defending his home from international criminals pursuing a microchip that’s accidentally in his possession. As we enter the holiday season, Bustle reported about X users debating the praiseworthiness of this third installment. One fan declared their love of the third movie.

“Y’all are going to put some respect on Home Alone 3. This was quality content!”

Home Alone 3 brought heightened entertainment with Alex’s more extreme and humorous traps compared to the first two films. Actors and crew on set also couldn’t help laughing at their own movie. Margot Robbie, who played the title role, reveals which improvised line made her laugh the most.

While audiences enjoyed Barbie in theaters, the movie’s cast and crew found it equally entertaining. During an interview with ET at the Gotham Awards, Margot Robbie spoke about an improvised line from her co-star, Ryan Gosling, that still makes her laugh to this day.

“The one that I always — It was one line that Ryan improvised on the day. When he yells out ‘sublime.’ I wasn’t prepared for that, that wasn’t in the script and to this day, that makes me laugh.”

Margot Robbie is referring to the scene when her character decides to reclaim Barbieland from the Kens by agreeing to be Ryan Gosling’s Ken’s “long-term, long-distance, low commitment casual girlfriend.” Concealing his excitement, Ken tells Barbie to briefly excuse himself as he steps into his “mojo dojo casa house.” Behind closed doors, we hear him victoriously yell, “Sublime!”

Even directors filming laugh-out-loud comedies have their moments of uproarious laughter behind the camera too. A behind-the-scenes video from ET showed Greta Gerwig unable to control her laughter in the scene when Michael Cera’s Allan screams “No!” when he sees his best buddy, Ken, wipe out on his surfboard. Gerwig looked like she was on the verge of tears from laughing. I don’t blame her since it looked like an overdramatic Jaws reenactment.

National Treasure was an action-packed Disney movie starring Nicolas Cage. The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced movie successfully combined action and historical elements into a fun film that was similar to a modern-day Indiana Jones. Funnily enough, the film’s star recalled the most iconic of the movie to be “profoundly ridiculous.”

The plot of National Treasure follows a treasure hunter/cryptographer who believes a treasure map is on The Declaration of Independence. To prevent the treasure from going into the wrong hands, he and his computer expert friend decide to steal it. If you felt like that was a far-fetched synopsis, imagine Nicolas Cage’s reaction saying his most absurd yet iconic line from the film.

According to Variety, the Dream Scenario actor was forced to watch himself on Vanity Fair say, “I’m going to steal The Declaration of Independence.” Here’s his hilarious response:

“How do you take something that is so profoundly ridiculous and really try to sell it?” asked Cage as he watched himself. “What I really like about that scene just seeing it again for the first time in however many years is I like the positivity of the character. He really believes this. He really reveres it. I think that’s charming.”

Cage was aware his memorable line from the action-adventure film has been meme’d and parodied so many times. When you think about it, how could it not? The Oscar winner pointed out that what made the line so funny was because of his serious delivery. Declaring the intention to steal a historical artifact is not something anyone would take seriously. So, speaking that line with no chuckle in the end made the scene all the more unforgettable. Cage also made sure to give director Jon Turtelbaum props for the way he shot the meme-worthy scene.

Would Nicolas Cage Return for National Treasure 3?

Three years after National Treasure became a worldwide box office hit, grossing $347 million, along came its sequel, Book of Secrets. This Disney sequel earned even more at the box office at $459 million worldwide. While the Disney+ series National Treasure: Edge of History debuted last December, the network canceled it in April after one season. So, that means we’re still in need of some treasure-hunter heist action.

Jeremy Bruckheimer’s update about National Treasure 3 around the time of the streaming series premiere was that a third movie was “ongoing.” On top of that good news, Bruckheimer said he’s collaborating with Nicolas Cage on a script. There’s still no word yet on any new updates. But it’s excellent to know that Cage could be reprising his well-known role as Benjamin Gates for a third movie.

When the trailer for Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving came out in September, you knew you’d be in for a terrifying ride. As the preview promised a Turkey Day-themed slasher, critics made this Eli Roth‘s best-reviewed movie. However, the start of Thanksgiving wasn’t from the first promo. The holiday slasher film started from a fake trailer he made for another iconic horror film.

With so many Christmas-themed horror films, it’s hard to believe there hasn’t been one centered around Thanksgiving yet. That is until Eli Roth gave the double-featured movie Grindhouse a fake exploitation trailer revealed during the movie. But, it didn’t stop there sixteen years later. The Cabin Fever director told The Hollywood Reporter what inspired him to turn his fake trailer into a full-length film.

“We thought, ‘All right, we’re done. We made the best parts [in the fake trailer]. Now we don’t even have to make the movie,” said Roth. “But for years, people just kept posting that trailer and badgering me and guilt-tripping me, and it worked. Shaming the director worked in this case.”

This was an idea the horror film director has had since he was 12. He kept picturing ways to blend slasher terror into the turkey-carving holiday. Endless possibilities ranged from cooking someone alive in an oven to decapitation at a parade. The trailer intended to be a joke, but you can thank the fans for hounding the director and pushing Roth into conceiving a story to bring the movie to fruition. After a string of Black Friday sale trampling videos surfaced, the Hostel director knew he could lean into that for his movie about the tragedy of a Black Friday riot leading to a Thanksgiving-inspired killer to terrorize Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Eli Roth Wanted Permission From a Couple of Big-Named Directors First

Because Eli Roth made this trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez‘s movie Grindhouse, he didn’t think it was right to go forward with this movie until he got their blessings.

“I, of course, wanted them to be excited and supportive. And they are and they have been,” said the film director. “So I gave Robert and Quentin very special thanks in the credits, as they deserve it, but they didn’t want to be involved in the film. They said, ‘This is your thing. Go do it.'”

It’s a good thing he got blessings from his two friends and from the film production company since he wanted this film to come out during the Thanksgiving holiday. He knew it was important to start shooting during the winter so it would come out on time for the fall holiday. Otherwise, that missed window would have held the horror film back for another year.

Eli Roth’s directed movies have achieved ratings as high as 65% on Rotten Tomatoes and as low as 18%. However, Thanksgiving accomplished an incredible feat. Controversy has surrounded the Snow White remake since Disney delayed the movie to a 2025 release date. To avoid becoming a box office bomb, Snow White needs to break even at $340 million.

Breaking even at the box office means that the movie has to earn double its production budget. According to Forbes, this number would need to be at least $340 million to qualify as a box office success. Financial statements from Forbes said that Walt Disney Studios spent $209.3 million producing Snow White. The huge costs could have come from the COVID-19 pandemic that delayed production. Film production was originally going to begin in March 2020. Filming didn’t start until two years later in the UK in March 2022.

The financial statements also said that the film earned $41.1 million in reimbursement cash due to the UK’s Film Tax Relief initiative. This would bring the production costs of the Marc Webb-directed movie to $168.2 million, which doesn’t seem to count post-production costs. The box office would have to make at least $336.4 million to balance out the costs.

What Could Be Stopping the Snow White Remake From Breaking Even?

Original reports say the delay of Snow White was from the SAG-AFTRA Strike. ComicBookMovie reported that an insider alleges the delay came from financial safety reasons to ensure it doesn’t flop. Otherwise, a financial disaster can mean future remakes and potential Snow White sequels could cease to exist. So, it looks like Disney is aware of the odds that Snow White could flop.

The backlash for Snow White first started when casting announcements revealed Rachel Zegler was the lead. Fans weren’t happy to hear a Latina actress was embodying the role compared to a Caucasian actress. It was also controversial when the West Side Story actress said Snow White won’t be “saved by a prince,” taking feminist strides away from the original. David Hand, whose father co-directed the 1937 movie, found the unreleased remake “insulting” and that he and Walt Disney would be “turning in their graves.”

And that’s not all. Set photos revealed that the Seven Dwarves would only have one actor with dwarfism, with the rest being non-dwarf actors. Disney said the photos showed stand-in adults substituting for the leads. A first-look photo shows Snow White surrounded by the Seven Dwarves in CGI form to make them look like the characters of the 1937 film.

There were also rumors that Rachel Zegler was fired from the movie due to a cryptic post saying, “Paddington 3 wraps filming in two weeks and Rachel Zegler was recast due to strikes.” Her role as Snow White was safe from the SAG-AFTRA strike. Instead, it was Zegler exiting Paddington 3 due to standing in solidarity with the strike participants.

Top Gun: Maverick took 2022’s Memorial Weekend crown with tons of people contributing to its box office record success. But that doesn’t mean everyone’s seen it yet. One cop pled guilty to pulling a gun on a colleague for threatening to spoil the Top Gun sequel.

While no one likes movie spoilers, it’s a whole other story to pull a gun on someone for that. According to The Los Angeles Times, 30-year-old Australian police officer Constable Dominic Francis Gaynor pled guilty to carrying a firearm with disregard for the safety of his colleague. Court documents state that 26-year-old Probationary Constable Morgan Royston saw Top Gun: Maverick the previous evening and jokingly threatened to spoil it for Gaynor. As stated by the documents of what the Australian cop did:

“He pointed his firearm at the vicinity of the complainant and held it stationary for five seconds. The offender’s finger was on the receiver and not the trigger. The offender was laughing throughout this incident.”

Gaynor appears to have intended the whole thing as a prank. The Australian Broadcasting Company said that Gaynor allegedly told his colleague something along the lines of “Don’t spoil the movie, c—” and “I’ll shoot you.”

Top Gun: Maverick was one of the top movies of 2022. It was the second-highest-grossing film of that year and the highest-grossing movie for Tom Cruise. It also received six nominations at the 95th Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and managed to win Best Sound. Critics and audiences raved about the Joseph Kosinski movie, who favored it more than the original and felt the flight sequences made it a great theatrical experience.

What Was the Aftermath Faced By the Cop and His Colleague?

Probationary Constable Morgan Royston quit the force after that ordeal. He said he wanted to become a police officer despite the dangers that would come. But after Gaynor pulled a gun on him, Royston felt “overwhelming shock and fear.” Sadly, this officer ended up falling into a depression afterward, as he told the court on Thursday.

“I have completely lost the trust I had and my admiration for the NSW Police Force. When I see a police officer now, I feel compelled to watch them and check their hand is not on their firearm.”

Gaynor’s lawyer, Chris Micali, made a case for Constable Dominic Francis Gaynor that he was remorseful and that there was no malicious intent. Micali summed up the incident as “skylarking and tomfoolery” that “went awry.” The lawyer pointed out that a conviction would remove him from the police force and cost his client “dearly.”

The court handed Gaynor not only a conviction but also 100 hours of community service and a two-year community correction order. Earlier in the week, he also experienced suspension without pay. Thankfully, in the aftermath of all of this, no shots were fired, and no one physically got hurt.

By the end of 2023, Walt Disney Studios will have released 33 movies. With so many box office bombs from Disney, CEO Bob Iger wants to change the “focus” of the studio’s movies going forward.

Walt Disney Studios has been facing a cinematic rough patch this year. CEO Bob Iger knows the pressure is on. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the media businessman has an explanation for what led to Disney’s films underperforming.

“That said as I looked at our overall output, meaning the studio, it’s clear that the pandemic created a lot of challenges creatively for everybody, including for us,” said Iger. “In addition, at the time the pandemic hit, we were leaning into a huge increase in how much we were making and I’ve always felt that quantity can be actually a negative when it comes to quality. And I think that’s exactly what happened. We lost some focus.”

During the pandemic, Disney may have gotten too ahead of itself by continuously producing content after movie theaters shut down. In the past, Disney released fewer titles than its rival studios. Then Bob Chapek, who was Disney’s CEO from 2020 to 2022, increased film and TV production content. But, there’s still hope as Bob Iger is more than aware of the problem. In fact, Disney will focus instead on the quality of content compared to quantity. He’s hopeful about the studio’s upcoming sequels, popular titles, and original content like Wish, which releases on Thanksgiving weekend.

“So I feel good about the direction we’re headed. But I’m mindful of the fact that our performance from a quality perspective wasn’t really up to the standards that we set for ourselves.”

What Disney Movies Have Underperformed This Year?

Disney will release its latest movie, The Marvels, during the weekend. However, Variety predicts the superhero movie will only generate $60-65 million, making it one of the lowest debut numbers in the MCU. Other high-profile misses include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which needed $600 million to break even. It only made $384 million at the box office which led to a $100 million loss for Disney. The Haunted Mansion also didn’t have the best opening as it struggled below Barbenheimer. Other titles that underperformed included The Little Mermaid, Strange World, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

In 28 years, Pixar suffered its worst opening. Elemental debuted at $29.5 million, becoming the second-lowest three-day opening weekend for a Pixar movie. Other than poor marketing and competing with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, critics believed that the underperformance of the Pixar movie stemmed from audiences used to seeing Disney movies hit streaming. In the past few years surrounding the pandemic, Luca, Soul, and Turning Red went straight to Disney+. Raya and the Last Dragon had a streaming/theatrical simultaneous release, and Encanto was in theaters for 30 days before moving to streaming.

The lesson learned is that producing great content will matter more than how many movies Disney Studios puts out there. Hopefully, 2024 will be a much better year for the studio like Bob Iger says.

Art the Clown in the Terrifier movies is known for conducting ultra-gory scenes that make audiences queasy. The first movie had a dreadful murder involving a woman and a hacksaw. Its sequel had the mutilation of a woman in her bedroom that made audiences in theaters puke. According to Terrifier 3’s director Damien Leone, his sequel will take it up a notch with its “controversial” opening scene.

November began with a teaser trailer for Terrifier 3 released during the previews of the re-release of the second movie. The bone-chilling supernatural entity Art the Clown poses as Santa, waking up kids in the house he breaks into. Director Damien Leone spoke to JoBlo about how his opening scene of Terrifier 3 is so “controversial” that movie studios would never approve it.

“So mark my words, I guarantee you the first 5 minutes of this movie is going to be very controversial,” said Leone. “But that’s not even the big kill scene. So like that’s why I was like, I need to just make this movie on my own, because it’s just too… it’s too insane.”

Damien Leone continued to say that he met with Hollywood studios interested in developing a third movie. However, they had major concerns about the level of gore featured. Hearing their concerns and believing studios would be quick to turn down five pages of Leone’s script was enough for him to realize it was in the best interest of the movie if he made it independently. This way, the horror film director can deliver to audiences the franchise’s signature move of blood and guts.

What Can We Expect From Terrifier 3?

The previous Terrifier movies took place during Halloween, with Art the Clown blending in with costumed townspeople or amusement parks. The third time around, this maniacal being will tackle Christmas in the form of a killer Santa. When Damien Leone spoke to BloodyDisgusting, he teased that he wanted to head back to the slasher tone of the first Terrifier movie. The All Hallows Eve director also mentioned that he never wants to stray further away and ignore his roots.

With a bigger budget, Damien Leone wants to use A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors as his inspiration. He promises it to be more epic in scale with a bigger budget and shot in anamorphic widescreen. Leone said it may look and feel different but will deliver what audiences already love while still being fresh.

We don’t know for sure what will happen in the opening of Terrifier 3. Maybe it’s the teaser trailer scene where Art the Clown comes face-to-face with innocent kids. If the controversy follows the doomed fates of these toddlers, it would make sense why studios would be hesitant. After all, it was revealed in Terrifier 2 that Art the Clown’s first victim was a little girl named Emily Crane. Everyone will know for sure once Terrifier’s third movie premieres in theaters on October 25, 2024.

Brendan Fraser blew critics, audiences, and The Academy away with his comeback performance in The Whale. Next stop on the Brenaissance train, he joined Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which premiered on October 20th. Due to the mixed reactions Fraser’s gotten playing W.S. Hamilton, Martin Scorsese defends his actor’s “perfect” performance.

The Oscar winner didn’t enter Killers of the Flower Moon until the third act. When Ernest Burkhart and his uncle William King Hale were on trial for the murders of the Osage Nation, Hale’s lawyer, W.S. Hamilton, came in full force, saying, “This man is my client!” While not all viewers took Brendan Fraser’s acting well, Variety reported that a press conference through LADbible had Martin Scorsese defending Fraser’s “perfect” performance.

“We thought he’d be great for the lawyer, and I admired his work over the years,” said Scorsese. “He actually came in for I think a couple of weeks on the picture, particularly when it was in our later shoot. We had a really good time working together, particularly with Leo. Particularly in the scene where he says, ‘They’re putting a noose around your neck, he’s saving you dumb boy.’ Really for us, when we heard that… he brought the whole scene down on Leo. It was perfect.”

The George of the Jungle actor also had a real blast working with Martin Scorsese. When he spoke on The Howard Stern Show in February, Fraser called him a “master cinema creator” open to suggestions. The School Ties actor also felt how Scorsese shot the courtroom scene was impressive, using four cameras “like an opera.”

Brendan Fraser may have had about 10 minutes of screen time, but his Killers of the Flower Moon performance clearly had a mixed effect on viewers. According to CBR, audiences either found Fraser’s acting to be glowing or disappointing. One X post supported the Golden Globe nominee defending that with the limited screentime he had, he “decided to make the absolute most of it.”

Although, an opposing X post believed they saw “one of the worst acting performances i have seen in my life.” Another X user even compared Brendan Fraser’s acting to a Plankton meme from Spongebob Squarepants!

To further explain Brendan Fraser’s over-the-top performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, Apple Original Films’ X account tweeted to followers something to pay attention to in the source material. In a side-by-side photo of a passage from David Grann’s book, Apple tweeted, “Notice the exclamation point” to show W.S. Hamilton did speak with gumption and commandeered a courtroom.

It’s important to remember that the character of W.S. Hamilton in Killers of the Flower Moon was William King Hale’s lawyer. He needed to prove the respected businessman was the best person that could have come to the Osage Nation. If that means giving a theatrical courtroom show, so be it. After all, it worked getting the attention of both the characters in the movie and the audience watching.

Jaws is one of the best animal attack movies about the hunt for a great white shark who went after beachgoers. Ian Shaw, son of the late Robert Shaw, who played shark hunter Quint, wrote all about that movie in the play The Shark is Broken. This play centers on the behind-the-scenes relationship between Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, and Roy Scheider while filming the Steven Spielberg classic. Dreyfuss got to see the play himself and said he felt “hurt” by it.

Richard Dreyfuss was one of the stars of Jaws who played marine biologist Matt Hooper. Vanity Fair reported the veteran actor watched a performance of “The Shark is Broken” unimpressed by what he saw of the alleged feud between him and Robert Shaw.

“I went to see it, to see if it really was gonna hurt. And it did,” said Dreyfuss. “It was pretty awful. Ian [Shaw]—who has more than any right to write whatever he wants—never called me and said, ‘Give me some background.’ Or, ‘Give me your take on this and this.’ And they just decided to make my character a big jerk.”

Apparently, Ian Shaw used his late father’s diary as a reference while writing the play with Joseph Nixon. But, it looks like there’s more to the story from Dreyfuss’ point of view.

How was the alleged feud in The Shark is Broken Depicted?

The Shark is Broken portrayed Robert Shaw as an English actor and alcoholic. Richard Dreyfuss was shown as, according to Vanity Fair, “neurotic, fame-obsessed, comically insecure.” The Mr. Holland’s Opus actor said some parts in the play were true like when Shaw made a bet with Dreyfuss he couldn’t do five push-ups. Other parts like a scene when the American Graffiti actor has a panic attack he said was far from true.

Another thing Richard Dreyfuss found fictional was that he and Shaw never fought. In reality, they actually had each other’s numbers and an “incredible relationship.” Rumors that there was a feud between the two Jaws co-stars have been circulating for over a decade. Dreyfuss blamed Steven Spielberg and Jaws co-screenwriter Carl Gottlieb for adding fuel to the fire.

“Thirty years after the film is over, I start to hear this thing about a feud,” said Dreyfuss. “I have to say that Carl and Steven knew better, knew that there was no feud. There was an ongoing kind of humor between us. If you only saw us on the set, then you might think that there was something—a feud that was going on—but it was never real. Never. And I hold that against Carl and Steven.”

It’s possible that what happened on set was just silly bantering. The Poseidon actor said the only moment of tension came when he threw Shaw’s bourbon overboard, and the English actor retaliated by “almost drowning” Dreyfuss with a hose. One bad moment on set, however, does not make bad blood.

As the only living Jaws actor of the three leads today, Richard Dreyfuss knew how important it was for him to speak out. If you plan on seeing this play at the John Gold Theatre in New York, its final performance is on November 19.

We all know that Robert Pattinson joined Twilight back in 2007 to play Bella’s dreamy vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen. Here’s what you may not know- Pattinson wasn’t the only one considered for Edward Cullen. In fact, Josh Peck claims he was nearly cast as the male lead.

Who would have thought that Josh Peck could have been the lucky actor to give Bella those smoldering looks and show off those pecks? Apparently, according to Bustle, the Drake and Josh star spoke on his own podcast Great Guys to Twilight star Taylor Lautner that the two of them almost became co-stars.

“I remember it’s like 2006? 7?” Peck said to Lautner. “They’re like, ‘Audition for this movie, Twilight, it’s based on a book, it’s going to be great.’ So I send in my tape, for Edward.”

Peck continued to say that a month later, he got a call from his manager. He revealed it was between the television star and three other men. The news came as quite a shock to the Nickelodeon star about being in the running to star in what would become a major franchise.

“I’m like, ‘Really?’” said Peck. “I hadn’t even had a tummy tuck yet. I’m like, ‘There’s no way. He’s got to be so shirtless, it’s not going to happen.’ Spoiler alert—didn’t get it.”

Taylor Lautner was just as shocked about this audition revelation. He thought it was “amazing” he almost got the chance to play his rival for Bella’s affections.

Who Else Was Nearly Cast to Play Edward Cullen?

Other than Robert Pattison and Josh Peck, there were other actors in line to play the vampire. The list included Scott Eastwood, Dustin Milligan, and Dave Franco, who auditioned. Then, there were other men who auditioned for Edward and got other roles in the series. Jamie Campbell Bower eventually played Volturi member Caius, and Michael Welch got to play Bella’s friend Mike Newton.

Contrary to what Josh Peck said, though, E! has a different story. In June, they revealed the decision was actually between four actors who weren’t Peck. The final four were Robert Pattinson, Shiloh Fernandez, Ben Barnes, and Jackson Rathbone, who ended up playing Edward’s foster sibling Jasper. Everything would come down to the final screen test with Kristen Stewart. While speaking to The New Yorker in 2021, the female lead of the series revealed with a mock swoon she knew from the start Pattinson was the right choice. Looks like it wasn’t in the cards for The Amanda Show actor to play the brooding teen vampire.

They say that sex sells. Does that phrase ring true anymore in terms of this generation’s viewing pleasure? A new study reveals that Gen Z wants to see less sex on screen.

Streaming services like Netflix have a lot of steamy content whether it’s TV shows like Shameless or a sexy film franchise like The After Series. But with so much sexy content on streaming services, it doesn’t mean it’s everyone’s cup of tea. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new UCLA study found youth ages 10-27 actually want to see less sex scenes in movies and TV.

Out of the 1,500 surveyed, 51% wanted to see platonic relationships and friendships portrayed more. 47.5% said they felt sex “isn’t needed” for most of this entertainment content, and 44% find it “overused.” 44% also said they “would rather clean the toilet” than go on an online date.

NPR reported that the UCLA research team didn’t ask if the surveyed youth watched porn outside of traditional viewing habits. However, UCLA Center for Scholars and Storytellers founder Yalda Uhls had her own theory of why youth want less sexual content.

“It’s not that young people aren’t interested in TV, movies, and other media with sexual content, it’s that they want to see more and different types of relationships,” said Uhls. “We did not specifically ask about porn, so I couldn’t say for sure. But one theory could be that the prevalence of porn could be a reason why they feel they want to see less sexual content in traditional media.”

What Other Theories Could Be Why Gen Z Want Less Sexual Movies and Shows?

After experiencing isolation during the pandemic, the research team believed Gen Z wanted to see more feel-good friendships. The team says kids and teens still possess adventure and a sense of curiosity.

THR thinks one newly released movie on Netflix could have something to do with the study’s results. This survey came out after No Hard Feelings recently streamed on the platform. One controversial scene audiences spoke about was Jennifer Lawrence‘s beach nude scene. After three people steal Maddie’s clothes while she skinnydips in the ocean, she gets out to fight them all while nude. While it was one of No Hard Feelings’ best moments, social media users debated about whether that scene was necessary.

As Psychology Today says young adults are having sex less often and with fewer partners, times must be changing. That could mean content could eventually shift to please what audiences want — more friendships and less steaminess.

Scary movies have different effects on everyone. As scariness is linked with physical symptoms, a study created by scientists reveals which movies are considered the scariest ones of all time. Fair warning, the top-ranked results alone are shocking.

Watching a scary movie can make your heart race, cause shakiness, and trigger anxious breathlessness. Men’s Journal shared the fourth annual report from broadbandchoices Science of Scare Project which revealed the top 50 scariest movies of all time. Researchers gave 250 participants heart monitors that recorded their reactions while they watched hundreds of scary movies. These scores were based on a person’s heart rate, heart rate variance, and assigned a “scare score” out of 100.

This time around, the winner of the scariest movie of all time is…Sinister with a score of 96. The Ethan Hawke-led horror film first made it to the top spot of this study back in 2020. After experiencing defeat for the past two years, it’s surprising this top-rated movie of 2012 made a comeback this year. Researchers disclosed in a statement the chill factor this particular horror film had on its audience.

“Our audience experienced a 34 percent uplift in heart rate when watching [Sinister], from 64 BPM up to 86 BPM across the movie, with the film’s scariest moment sending hearts pounding to 131 BPM.”

Ethan Hawke played a struggling true-crime author who discovers in his new house startling footage of a family murder. When the old footage hints that a supernatural force was at play, this puts him and his family in danger. The study’s results found the movie to be “a perfect balance of startling moments and slow-burn scares.”

What other horror films ranked?

For two years in a row from 2021-2022, the indie horror flick Host was in first place in the Science of Scare Project study. This year, however, Host dropped down to second place. Another unexpected twist showed that lower-budget, direct-to-streaming projects had a more chilling effect on audiences than well-known legacy ones.

The Fantasia Film Festival premiere film Skinamarink made it to third place, followed by Insidious. For the James Wan horror film, audiences experienced a BPM spike higher than all of the top 50 movies, rising to 133 with a resting heart rate of 64. This means Insidious featured the most frightening scene that any audience saw out of all of the movies they watched.

With a BPM spike of 132, The Conjuring made it to fifth place, followed by Hereditary, Smile, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Hell House LLC, and Talk to Me. Further down the list were classic horror movies that audiences loved generations ago, like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre at 23rd place, followed by 25th place’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween at 26th place, and The Exorcist at number 32. It’s hard to believe that The Nun 2 proved to be scarier than The Exorcist in 28th place.

This generation of audiences clearly freaks out at relatable elements in this techno-centric world, like found footage absurdities. Psychos with masks or supernatural possessions just aren’t scaring people the same way as they did 50 years ago.
