Paramount has officially set the Baby Shark’s Big Movie release date, confirming when the film will arrive on the Paramount+ streaming platform in a new trailer.

The new film, which is based on the beloved preschool property, will release on both Nickelodeon and Paramount+ on December 8, 2023, at 12 p.m. ET. The film will be available in the U.S. and Canada at first, before arriving in additional international markets in 2024, according to the company.

A new trailer for the film was also released, previewing the adventure that Baby Shark must go on as he and his family move into a big city and he must adjust to his new surroundings. Alongside the trailer and release date, Paramount also confirmed that the soundtrack for the film will also be available on December 8, 2023 and will feature music composed by Jon Chau.

Illumination has dropped a brand new Migration trailer for its forthcoming animated comedy, starring Kumail Nanjiani and Elizabeth Banks.

The video highlights a family of ducks led by Nanjiani’s dad, Mack, and Bank’s mom, Pam, as they embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Together, they will open up their kids to the world, where they’ll learn how to overcome their fears and embrace opportunities. The film is currently slated to arrive in theaters on December 23.

What to Expect in Migration?

“In the film, the Mallard family is in a bit of rut. While dad Mack is content to keep his family safe paddling around their New England pond forever, mom Pam is eager to shake things up and show their kids—teen son Dax and duckling daughter Gwen—the whole wide world. After a migrating duck family alights on their pond with thrilling tales of far-flung places, Pam persuades Mack to embark on a family trip via New York City to tropical Jamaica,” reads the synopsis.

“As the Mallards make their way South for the winter, their well-laid plans quickly go awry. Described as a visual spectacle, Migration is directed by Benjamin Renner and Guylo Homsy from a screenplay by Mike White (The White Lotus). It is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri. It is edited by Christian Gazal, while Colin Stimpson served as a production designer.

ComngSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke with Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie director Cal Bunker and producer Laura Clunie about the animated family movie. The duo discussed the wide-reaching appeal of Paw Patrol and the film’s Chris Rock cameo. Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie is now available digitally and will release on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, December 12.

“When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS! For Skye, the smallest member of the team, her new powers are a dream come true,” reads the movie‘s synopsis. But things take a turn for the worse when the pups’ archrival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with Victoria Vance, a meteor-obsessed mad scientist, to steal the superpowers and turn themselves into supervillains. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it’s too late, and Skye will need to learn that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference.”

Tyler Treese: The first movie had a focus on Chase. This is very much Skye’s movie. We go into her backstory, and she serves as the emotional crux of the film. I’m a dog owner, so I really enjoyed the movie. Can you speak to changing the focus?

Cal Bunker: We love all the pups, but we wanted to focus on Skye. We felt that we had a great story to tell for her, so she came to the forefront. From an emotional standpoint, that’s something that we really feel strongly about — making these movies and trying to really build a connection with these characters. It’s great to hear that it worked for you. It works for us, too, so you’re not alone.

Each of the pups has their fans. It has to be really great to have so many different pups where each of the individual ones could carry a movie and be the main focal point while still feeling natural. Having such a great ensemble of pups with different personalities must be a big advantage.

Laura Clunie: Yeah, there’s somebody for everybody, and we know from doing the series for 10 seasons now that you have certain kids that have the affinity to the one they love [and] the job that they love. We do know that Skye is up there as one of the most popular, and we felt the need to give her her voice in a movie just all for herself … well, it’s not all for herself, because it has the other pups, but to really celebrate her because our viewers are really pretty much even — boy [and] girl. So it just was time for Skye, but we always make sure to have a moment with the other pups because they always come for everybody. We could never choose. [Laugh].

The idea of the Mighty Pups was in the television show before this, so it’s not completely new, but what was the challenge in adapting that to a full-blown movie?

Cal Bunker: I think, for us, the most exciting part of a superhero story, at least for me — I’ll speak for myself — is always watching the origin. If you think about that moment when the characters get their powers for the first time, you as the audience member think, “Wow, what would that be like to discover I had this power that I didn’t have before?”

So starting from the beginning of the Mighty Pup story and telling the theatrical version of that was really important. Rather than picking up after this really magical moment had happened, we thought, “No, no, no, let’s start from the beginning, and we can do our theatrical version of how this comes in.” Because of the time we have to work on the movie and the budget, obviously we can blow a lot of things up and make it a big screen event. So certainly, that’s why we approached it from going back to the origin moment.

Laura Clunie: We knew from the series that Mighty played really well as a theme for our core viewers in the TV series. The theatrical experience always gives you so much more to delve into, so we felt there was enough time that passed, and we really felt that kids love superheroes. It’s kind of key for them to access it. At a young age, you’re not quite ready for Marvel, so it just felt like the perfect opportunity to bring it back in for the movie.

When I saw Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie in theaters, part of the fun was seeing the reactions from all the kids. I’ve seen parents say, “This was my kid’s first movie,” and that has to be so exciting — to be a part of a really formative experience of going to the movies for the first time. How special is that when you work on these types of movies?

Laura Clunie: Yeah, of course. We love it. It’s just so special to see kids connect, and the brand has a huge awareness globally. So again, we knew, when we first started off into the theatrical space, that there would be an appetite. We were, understandably, a little bit nervous because we’ve always been in the safe space of TV and, like I said, it’s a little bit more limited in storytelling, so we’re a bit nervous … we were worried. Is it going to be too much for them? But the first one was so well-celebrated and loved, [and] the second one, it seems, even more so. We feel like we’re really onto something.

Typically, even as a parent of kids, my kids are now older, but there’s not a lot of opportunity for young kids to go to the movies, so it really is something special. I actually feel like we’re paving the way for other preschool brands to bring movies to the screen, and we’re really happy about that, because we think, “The more, the merrier,” because we want to make sure preschoolers are served across the board.

I was looking up the Paw Patrol mythos, and it was so fun to see there are all these different variations. There are dinosaurs. There’s the super cat group that comes in — when you’re looking forward to more films in the future, do you see where you want to look for inspiration? What’s your approach to that?

Cal Bunker: Well, we’re already hard at work on the next one. I can’t say a lot more than that, but in terms of speaking to the inspiration … we work together, our whole creative team. We get in a room and we pitch through a lot of stuff. As Laura can attest, we’ve got multiple branching trees of different ways this could go. One of them rises to the top and we go, “Okay, that’s the next story we all want to tell.” And we chase that excitement and inspiration as far as it takes us.

There are a lot of great celebrity voices in Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. I was not expecting the Chris Rock cameo — that really cracked me up. How did that all come together? Kids love this show, so I’m sure you get a lot of parents who want to be involved. How did Chris Rock come about?

Laura Clunie: Chris Rock came about … I think he was the last one we had and we knew that that line was a big moment, and we felt like we were racking our brains because, for us to make it work, it had to be a voice that you’re saying, “Wait, was that so-and-so?” Chris Rock has such a recognizable voice. He’s so funny. He was just perfect for the role. Because the brand’s so well-known, I can’t say it’s easy to cast — it’s always a challenge — but there are a lot of stars who are like, “Oh, I know that! My kids love it,” or, “My niece or nephew,” or whatever. So there’s definitely always a connection, which helps for sure.

Cal Bunker: I’ll add that when we wrote that line in the script, from the very beginning, we were like, “This would be the funniest thing in the world if this cat opened its mouth and it was Chris Rock’s voice.” Then, a year later, Laura called and was like, “We got him!” [Laughs]. So yeah, that was a dream casting come true.

Avatar: The Last Airbender has not had much luck in the realm of video game adaptations despite being such a great fit for it. The best-known game, 2007’s Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Burning Earth, is only really known for being incredibly easy to get 1,000 Achievement points. Its sequel series, The Legend of Korra, has fared slightly better — receiving a fun action game from PlatinumGames — but now we have another attempt at the main franchise in Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance.

Sadly, Quest for Balance isn’t the game that fans have been waiting for and definitely doesn’t take advantage of being on PlayStation 5 and other current-gen systems. This becomes apparent from the onset as it looks more like a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360-era game than a current-gen one. While underwhelming graphics aren’t necessarily a death knell for a game, poor gameplay is, and characters control in a stiff manner that isn’t fun. It winds up making a very poor first impression, but if you give the game a chance, you’ll actually find some charm within its rough edges and some potential value for fans of the series.

What helps the game is its format — essentially a retelling of the key parts of The Last Airbender’s story. Stages aren’t too long — you solve a few puzzles, see a few familiar faces, and then generally face off against a boss fight. It’s quick, it’s snappy, and it delivers blasts of nostalgia. While the gameplay isn’t anything great, getting to see some of your favorite storylines play out in quick succession is still enjoyable.

Combat gets better as the game goes on, as you can unlock additional skills for each of the game’s nine characters. However, it never gets particularly fulfilling. Nothing about the combat is fluid, and locking onto foes feels a bit clunkier than it should. Boss fights fare a bit better, as they usually incorporate some light puzzle solving, but there still isn’t much to write home about.

The puzzles found throughout the game’s 18 chapters are definitely the highlight. There are some genuinely solid puzzles throughout that force players to maneuver multiple characters — or work together with a friend in the game’s local co-op play — and interact with objects using multiple bending techniques. These can actually get tricky, which might frustrate the younger players the game is seemingly targeting, but make it a solid enough game for a kid and parent to play together.

Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance Review: The Final Verdict

While Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance never really impresses, it winds up becoming aggressively fine as it goes on and expectations are lowered. It leans into nostalgia, while the puzzles do the heavy lifting in making the gameplay less tedious than a standard brawler would be. It’s hard to recommend to adult fans looking to relive the series’ highs, but there have been a lot worse licensed titles and this at least has some charm and thought put into it.

SCORE: 5/10

As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 5 equates to “Mediocre.” The positives and negatives wind up negating each other, making it a wash.

Are ya ready, kids? Nickelodeon has officially renewed SpongeBob SquarePants through Season 15.

Per Variety, Nickelodeon has granted SpongeBob an early Season 15 renewal ahead of Season 14’s premiere this November. Season 15 will consist of 26 episodes, which will bring the show to a grand total of 345 episodes.

SpongeBob SquarePants is Nickelodeon’s longest-running cartoon

Created by the late Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob SquarePants premiered on Nickelodeon in May 1999. The animated series stars the voices of Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Clancy Brown, Carolyn Lawrence, and Mr. Lawrence.

Since its debut nearly 25 years ago, SpongeBob has become a cornerstone of Nick’s lineup, as well as a juggernaut of children’s entertainment at large. In addition to its 13 seasons and counting, the show has spawned three theatrically-released feature films and two spin-off series. A fourth big-screen SpongeBob movie is in the works, as are three streaming-exclusive spin-off films.

It was in 2012 — during Season 8 — that SpongeBob became Nickelodeon’s longest-running animated series in history. With the airing of its 173rd episode, the show broke the record previously held by Rugrats — and has only padded its lead in the decade-plus since.

SpongeBob SquarePants Seasons 1-12 are currently streaming on Paramount+. Season 14 premieres on Nickelodeon in November.

Outright Games has shown off the Bluey: The Videogame trailer, previewing the first ever video game based on the iconic children’s animated show.

What do we know about Bluey: The Videogame?

Set to release on November 17, 2023, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, the game is developed in conjunction with BBC Studios, and allows players to explore the world of Bluey, and navigate through different iconic locations from the show, including Bluey’s home.

Bluey: The Videogame supports multiplayer as asll we solo play, with players able to play as Bluey, her sister Bingo, Mum, and Dad. The game will also feature episodic content via a four-part storyline inspired by fan favorite moments from the show. The new storyline is created in partnership with Artax Games, BBC Studios, and the producers from the actual Bluey show, Ludo Studio.

Disney has revealed that the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has broken Disney+ records since being added to the service last week.

In a press release, Disney announced that The Little Mermaid — which released in theaters this past May — broke records and became the most viewed Disney movie premiere on the streaming platform since Hocus Pocus 2 last year. The company revealed that the live-action remake has been viewed 16 million times in the five days since it debuted on Disney+ on September 6.

Who made the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid?

The Little Mermaid was directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay written by David Magee, based on the iconic 1989 animated film of the same name. The live-action movie features Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina.

The film paired up Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken to create a blend of both beloved songs from the original and new music. Miranda and Marshall also worked together on Mary Poppins Returns.

Disney’s animated The Little Mermaid made over $211 million at the box office and became a bestseller on home video, popularizing songs like “Under The Sea” and “Part of Your World.” The upcoming film is based on the short story by Hans Christian Andersen and the 1989 Disney animated film by Ron Clements and John Musker.

Paramount Home Entertainment announced the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem digital release date today, and fans won’t have to wait long.

The animated series, which is set to debut on Thursday, September 14, is a return to the beloved universe of Barbie DreamHouse Adventures. The season will be made up of 13 episodes, with each being 22 minutes in length.

Disney has released a new LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest trailer for the upcoming animated film that follows some of the company’s most famous princesses. The trailer shows Ariel, Tiana, Rapunzel, Moana, and Snow White team up to defeat wolves, pirates, and the villainous Gaston. The film is set to release on Disney+ on Friday, August 18.

LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest features many of the original voices of the lead characters, including Jodi Benson as Ariel, Auli’i Cravalho as Moana, Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Anika Noni Rose as Tiana, Richard White as Gaston, and Joanne Worley as Wardrobe. They are joined by Katie Von Till as Snow White, Corey Burton as Magic Mirror, and Jim Cummings as King Triton.
